How to Get a Chicken Egg in CS2
Claim it from the Weekly Care Package
- Have Prime Status. Valve reserves XP and the Weekly Care Package for Prime accounts. Our Prime Status guide explains the requirement.
- Earn a profile rank-up during the week. Play official modes to earn the XP that unlocks your package. The weekly reset determines when a new reward becomes available.
- Check the offered items. If a Chicken Egg appears, select it on the reward screen. An egg is not promised in every package.
- Confirm the trade-off. Its card says it is untradable and consumes both picks. Do not expect to take a case or skin alongside it.
The Chicken Egg appears in a nest beside your character in the main-menu lobby and can also be inspected through the pet system. Valve directly referenced this lobby display in its September 25 update, changing the background-scene eggs so they settle down properly in the nest. Party members can also see the pet display in the lobby.
What the egg costs you
The usual weekly drop pool gives players a choice of items with resale value. The egg has no market price today, so take it because you want to raise a pet, not as an investment. Case and skin values change by the items offered and the day you claim them. Check the exact alternatives in your package before using both picks.

Only one pet can be held on an account according to the client-file restrictions. If you already have an egg or chicken, do not plan on collecting a second one that week.
What CS2 Pets Are and Where Yours Appears
This is a cosmetic companion system, not a new weapon or tactical ability. A pet does not improve aim, reveal enemies, or change round results. Players can inspect the egg near their character in the main menu. The file-backed pet slot is the underlying inventory mechanism, not a second egg to collect.
The system arrived alongside CS2 Rush mode, but winning Rush is not a condition for getting an egg. XP earned in eligible official play is what leads to a Weekly Care Package.
How Long Does a CS2 Chicken Egg Take to Hatch?
The first Chicken Eggs began hatching on September 28, several days after the Rush Hour update. Each egg has its own hatch date shown through the pet system, so the date attached to your egg is more useful than assuming every egg takes exactly seven days. Once the hatch date arrives, opening CS2 can trigger the Egg-to-Chick transition.
Do not try a hatch shortcut. No verified console command, case purchase, or Rush win accelerates an egg. Eggs hatch according to their assigned hatch date, so check your pet’s status rather than trying to force the process.
The Four Growth Stages: Egg, Chick, Pullet and Hen
The client defines four separate stages: Egg, Chick, Pullet and Hen. Egg-to-Chick progression is now confirmed in live accounts. The Pullet and Hen stages, including when breed and colour become visible, still rely mainly on the shipped game data until the earliest pets reach those stages.

Chicken Feed is another Weekly Care Package item, shown in three bag sizes in the current assets. The game files warn players when a pet is running low and direct them back to a later package for more. That makes the decision to take an egg an ongoing choice, not a one-week novelty.
What happens if you run out
The file logic says growth depends on food. If the food supply runs out first, the egg will not hatch, or a pet will leave. The warning reads, “Your pet is running low on food. Grab more feed from a Weekly Care Package soon.” No one has yet documented how many bags a full life requires. Check your own pet’s status before choosing other rewards.

Are some chickens rarer?
Not in any proven market sense. Repeated entries may suggest a higher chance of those appearances, but they are not official probability data. Every egg hatches into the same chick,k and the files indicate that breed and colour are assigned at the pullet stage. There is no verified method to choose or reroll an outcome.
Naming Your Chicken
Naming is available once the egg hatches into a chick. Players have now used the live naming controls, so this is no longer only a game-file feature. Do not describe renaming as unlimited or assume a paid Name Tag system unless Valve confirms how later renames work.
The HatchBook and Photo Booth
The HatchBook is the photo album for your pet’s life, with sections for the Chick, Pullet, and Hen stages. The Photo Booth is now confirmed as a live feature rather than just something found in the client files. Hatched chicks can be photographed with your agent and the resulting photos added to the HatchBook.
Valve also updated the Photo Booth on October 2, so your agent now wears its equipped gloves during photography sessions. If you want a specific glove and agent combination in your HatchBook photos, equip it before opening the Photo Booth.

Picnic and Photo Studio backgrounds are part of the pet photography system, while later map backgrounds are tied to the older growth stages described in the files. The exact Pullet and Hen unlock flow still needs live verification. File references also describe Molotov, Zeus, and C4-related field reports and a “Brave” tag, but these should not be treated as confirmed pet gameplay mechanics yet.
Can You Take a Chicken Into Matches?
The client describes Pullet and Hen pets as being able to accompany their owner on official maps. The first publicly observed pets are still in the earlier Chick stage, so the actual deployment controls and map behaviour remain unverified. Can You Trade or Sell CS2 Chickens?
