The CS2 community is celebrating the game’s birthday this week. CS2 is 10 years old and between August 16th – 23rd, players can earn the CS2 birthday coin.
After that, the opportunity will be gone forever, so if you’re serious about playing the game long-term and want to collect a special item that may be worth some money 5-10 years from now, this is the chance. Luckily for fans, the conditions of obtaining the coin are very simple and will be discussed later in the article.
Valve’s Update
Originally, Valve’s August 16th update was supposed to contain the much-anticipated Source 2 game update that was hinted at a while ago. That ultimately didn’t happen and was probably delayed for QA reasons, but the CS2 community still got a lot of nice things.
New Maps
The new maps that you can play are these:
- Anubis
- Breach
- Tuscan
- Primetime
- Blagai
In particular, Anubis, Breach, and Tuscan are definitely worth playing. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll get to see one of these maps in professional tournaments. It all depends on what professional players think of them, and the statistics.
If it turns out that these CS2 maps are too CT-sided or too T-sided, they’ll either have to be reworked or they won’t be considered for the Active Duty Map Pool. But if they turn out to be well-designed and balanced, in a few years we might watch an IEM Katowice where some competitors’ best map is Anubis.
A New Sticker Capsule
The 10 Year Birthday Sticker Capsule contains a lot of cool-looking stickers and the great news is that even the Covert ones are cheap. This could change, however, in 12-24 months, so investing now in buying some of them may pay off later.
Here’s a list of the best-looking stickers that you can find in the 10 Year Birthday Sticker Capsule:
- Baby Howl
- Agent Select
- Ten Years
- Showdown
- Skin Lover
There are dozens of options and many of them look amazing.
A 10 Year Birthday Coin
Valve granted This coin for having had 10 successful years of CS2.
How to get the 10 Year Birthday Coin
Obtaining the 10 Year Birthday Coin can be done by getting enough experience for your first in-game drop of the week. You can gain that experience by playing any game mode you like. If you play 5-10 competitive games, it should be more than enough and you’ll receive it.
People will want to get the coin for many reasons. One of them is to prove that you’re a serious CS2 fan. Anyone who has dedicated hundreds or thousands of hours to this game will want to own it.
The only problem with the 10 Year Birthday Coin is that Valve made it too easy to get it. This means that the coin will likely exist in large numbers and therefore, its value will not be great on the Steam Market, at least not in the near future.
Perhaps 5-10 years from now, the situation will be completely different because many people stop playing after a while. But right now, do not expect to sell your coin for a lot of money because millions of players will own it by the end of the week.
