Ancient Smokes in CS2

Discover the essential ancient smokes in CS2's Ancient map. Gain an edge in your gameplay with expert knowledge on smoke spots.

When it comes to CS2’s Ancient map, nailing your smokes is crucial for gaining control and executing strategies effectively. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving deep into the best smoke spots on this map, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned about ancient smokes in CS2 with you.

1. Window Smoke from Elbow

When rotating from A to B, this smoke is invaluable. Stand at the right-most edge of the wall outside Elbow, aim at the mark above the cracks, and do a jump throw.

This setup blocks the vision of opponents holding mid, giving your team a safer passage from Elbow to mid.

I often use this smoke when we need to transition quickly and can’t afford a mid confrontation. A variation of this kind of smoke is present in almost all CS2 maps.

2. Mid Donut Smoke from T Spawn

For mid-control, this smoke is a must. Go to the left corner in T Spawn behind the river, aim at the edge of the building, and perform a W+jump throw.

By blocking the vision from Donut, you can safely push mid and potentially split A or B. This smoke has saved me countless times from early aggression.

3. Mid-Donut from Outside Elbow

Combine this with the Window smoke from Elbow. Stand under the Window in Elbow, aim at the top of the rope on the wooden support, and do a left-click throw.

This smoke ensures that Donut is covered, allowing your team to focus on clearing mid without worrying about being picked off from Donut.

4. A Site Donut

This is an easy yet effective smoke. At the entrance of A Main, aim at the gap in the hollowed wall, and do a jump throw.

Smoking off Donut is crucial when executing onto A Site, as it blocks the common CT position. This smoke has been a game-changer in my A Site takes, often leading to a successful plant.

5. CT Smoke from Mid Donut

This smoke helps in pushing from Donut to A. Stand in the left corner of the Donut Door, aim between the gap of two ledges, and do a jump throw.

Blocking the vision from CT allows your team to safely advance into A Site. This is especially useful in post-plant situations to cut off CT rotations.

6. A Site Temple

Stand in the left corner of A Main, crouch, aim at the top right part of the leaf, and perform a W+jump throw. This smoke is essential for blocking off the Temple area.

When executing A Site, it’s vital to isolate Temple, as it’s a common spot for CTs to hold with an AWP or rifle.

7. Cave

From T Spawn, stand at the right side of the pillar under the bridge, aim at the same building as the previous smoke, and do a 2-step walking jump throw.

This smoke is perfect for taking control of Cave, which is a critical area for both Ts and CTs. I’ve found this smoke to be particularly useful during B Site takes and retakes.

8. Elbow Smoke from CT Spawn

To take early mid-control, stand in the back left corner of CT Spawn, aim at the center of the two bricks on top of the building, and perform a W+jump throw.

This smoke allows your team to contest mid early without exposing yourself to potential T aggression. It’s a staple in my CT-side playbook.
