Team Falcons Are The New G2 Esports

Share

Team Falcons had a phenomenal performance just one week ago at PGL Bucharest 2025. The roster coached by Danny “zonic” Sørensen did an excellent job and won the trophy by defeating G2 Esports in the Grand Final.

The best player on Falcons’ side was Abdul “degster” Gasanov, who left the team shortly after and was replaced by Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov. The 19-year-old superstar essentially swapped sides, joining his good friend Nikola “NiKo” Kovač for what could be a great adventure.

For sure, the two of them can win trophies. Add zonic and Emil “Magisk” Reif and you have a core that could potentially beat any rival in the long run.

For the next 3-6 months, it’s hard to imagine Falcons conquering CS2 and defeating the likes of Team Vitality, MOUZ, Team Spirit, and Natus Vincere. But they surely have what it takes to become a top-5 team.

What About G2 Esports?

With NiKo and m0NESY out of G2 Esports, the organization has clearly lost its edge and will soon own just another tier-1 team in CS2. Not terrible, not great. Just average. Unless, of course, something miraculous happens.

All things considered, G2 had a great run in the last four years, winning half a dozen S-tier trophies and coming close to winning a Counter-Strike Major. They also, presumably, made a lot of money by selling both NiKo and m0NESY to a rich club like Team Falcons.

When people have a lot of money and desperately want their team to become the best, they can afford to buy the very best and pay a premium. It’s estimated that m0NESY’s buyout was around $2 – $2.5 million, which is a lot of money in CS2. Add NiKo and you likely have an investment close to $4 million.

But G2 Esports is now a shadow of its former self in CS2. No doubt, Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa probably feels bad at this point. Not to mention Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, who is NiKo’s cousin. He too was abandoned but most likely understood the situation. The offer was too good to refuse.
