Team Fortress 2 has nine official classes. And of these nine classes, Demoman is one of the most fun to play. TF2 Demoman can be hard to master because every time you fire a grenade, the margin for error is quite limited.
The Strengths and Weaknesses of Demoman
Demoman is strong against static targets that need to stay close to each other. This usually happens in game modes where one team needs to hold a position for whatever reason or to make slow and steady progress predictably.
If you know where the enemy is or where he will need to go next, you can shoot grenades at his approximate location and deal a lot of damage.
The problem arises when you need to fight in an open space. And unfortunately, TF2 is full of maps on which the battle takes place in open spaces. Such terrains are not suitable for the Demoman because his primary and secondary weapons need a solid background to hit targets.
Of course, you can always hit a target by shooting it directly. But that’s hard to do. It’s much easier to hit a wall or an object in its proximity and have the splash damage kill it.
Of all the classes you can choose on maps with control points, the Demoman is one of the best. However, remember that he belongs to the offensive class and forms the main attack force against the other team.
Counters and Prey for Demoman
Demoman’s counters are long-range or slippery defense classes such as the Spy, the Sniper, and the Scout. All of these classes will easily kite you, kill you from a long distance, or dodge all of your shots.
You can still kill them if you fight in narrow spaces where the advantage is on your side and hiding is no longer that effective. But in open spaces, you don’t stand a chance.
Demoman is fun to play against slow classes such as the Heavy. These classes cannot dodge your attacks and will receive a lot of damage from you. In addition, the Heavy usually has a Medic right next to him, so part of the damage you will deal to him will also affect the Medic.
Demoman is excellent against support classes like the Engineer because his grenades allow him to destroy targets from afar while not having to hit them precisely.
Weapons used by Demoman
The weapons you will use when playing this TF2 class are very basic. These are the most useful options:
- Grenade Launcher
- Loch-n-Load
- Ali Baba’s Wee Booties
- Bootlegger
- Loose Cannon
- BASE Jumper
- Iron Bomber
- Stickybomb Launcher
- Chargin Targe
- Scottish Resistance
- Sticky Jumper
- Splendid Screen
- Tide Turner
- Quickiebomb Launcher
- Bottle
- Scottish Handshake
- Frying Pan
- Necro Smasher
- Prinny Machete
As you’ve probably noticed, when utilizing this class, you can turn it into a melee one. You can become a warrior from ancient times and utilize your melee weapon to kill pesky Snipers and Spies. When choosing the appropriate loadout for this play style, you’ll have great movement speed.
If you want more fun playing Demoman, try using some TF2 skins. They make the character look a lot cooler.
