What is eDPI?

eDPI is effective dots per inch, the number that describes how fast your crosshair actually moves once your mouse hardware and your in-game setting are combined. It is the only fair way to compare two players in the same game, because the same in-game sensitivity feels completely different on a different DPI.

The formula
eDPI equals mouse DPI multiplied by in-game sensitivity.
A 800 DPI mouse at 1.5 sensitivity gives an eDPI of 1200. So does a 400 DPI mouse at 3.0 sensitivity.

What is a good eDPI?

eDPI and cm/360, and which one to use

Use eDPI when you are comparing yourself to another player in the same game. It is one number, it is easy to quote, and every settings database publishes it.

Use cm/360 when you are crossing games. Each game scales its sensitivity slider differently, so an eDPI of 800 in CS2 and an eDPI of 800 in Valorant are not the same speed. cm/360 measures the physical distance your hand moves for one full turn, which is the same measurement in every game.

If you are buying a mousepad, cm/360 is also the number that tells you how much desk you need.

eDPI
Same game, player against player. Cannot cross games.
cm/360
Any game, any DPI, any mouse. The measure serious players compare.

CS2 scoped eDPI

CS2 applies a separate multiplier while you are scoped, held in the console variable sensitivity_zoom. Your scoped eDPI is your hipfire eDPI multiplied by that value, and it is the number that decides how an AWP or a scoped SSG feels. Generic eDPI calculators ignore this entirely.

A zoom sensitivity of 1 keeps scoped and hipfire aligned in raw counts, which is why most professionals leave it there. Values below 1 make small corrections at range easier and long swings slower. Values above 1 do the reverse and are rare at any level.

One caveat that catches people out. Because the field of view narrows when you scope, a zoom sensitivity of 1 does not feel identical to hipfire even though the counts match. Players who want the CS:GO legacy feel across the zoom transition usually land near 0.75 to 0.82 rather than 1.

Method and review
eDPI equals mouse DPI multiplied by in-game sensitivity. cm/360 is derived from each game's yaw constant, so it is exact rather than approximated. Last reviewed 18 August 2026.
