Team Falcons had a good start in CS2 in 2024 but quickly ran into insurmountable obstacles. In the end, they failed to accomplish their objectives and couldn’t even qualify for some of the most important tournaments of the year, including the Majors.
Apart from IEM Katowice (3rd – 4th place), DreamHack Summer 2024 (2nd place), and BLAST Premier Fall Final (7th – 8th place), the entire year was a disappointment.
To be fair, Falcons were very close to winning a lot of key matches, so it’s not like they got completely destroyed. However, in CS2, the only thing that counts is the end result. Because of that, something had to be done.
As you might expect, Danny “zonic” Sørensen will continue to coach the team. Emil “Magisk” Reif also survived the roster changes. But everyone else is out.
The former Falcons players are formidable and they will surely find new strong teams if they choose to. But for some reason, their combined efforts did not yield the desired results.
The New Falcons Roster
This is the new Falcons roster:
- Zonic (coach)
- Magisk
- Nikola “NiKo” Kovač
- René “TeSeS” Madsen
- Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski
- Abdulkhalik “degster” Gasanov
On paper, this roster has enough talent to do well in S-tier tournaments. But it’s doubtful that they will obtain a lot of top-four results. Even top-six and top-eight results will be hard to achieve.
For a completely new roster to assemble into a team that can compete with the likes of Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, and Natus Vincere, months and months of effort are required. And even then, there is no guarantee.
It’s understandable why NiKo wanted to make this career change. He spent four years competing for G2 Esports and won more than half a dozen important tournaments. However, he failed to win a Major and he likely either gave up on the idea or decided to try to achieve his dream with a different team.
Whether he will succeed or not remains to be seen. 2025 will be a critical year for the new Falcons roster.
