Shanghai Major Day 1 Results

Share

The first competitive day of the Shanghai Major ended with somewhat predictable results. However, Complexity lost both of their matches and are now on the brink of elimination.

Meanwhile, Team Liquid, and three other teams are just one step away from advancing to the second stage of the tournament.

The 2 W – 0 L Teams

The four teams that won both of their matches on the first day of the Shanghai Major are Team Liquid, GamerLegion, The MongolZ, and FlyQuest.

Almost everyone expected Liquid and The MongolZ to be in this position after the first day but GamerLegion and FlyQuest arguably overperformed. The first one defeated the Brazilians from FURIA Esports and paiN Gaming, while the second one managed to beat Complexity and BIG.

Liquid’s matches were challenging and both of them ended with a 13 – 10 result. Their opponents, Cloud9 and Wildcard, confirmed their strength by ending the day with a 1 W – 1 L result.

The MongolZ had a very easy day 1, winning 13 – 2 against Rare Atom and 13 – 6 against MIBR.

The 1 W – 1 L Teams

Here are the eight teams that ended the day with reasonably good results:

  • BIG
  • MIBR
  • FURIA Esports
  • PaiN Gaming
  • Cloud9
  • Wildcard
  • Virtus.pro
  • Passion UA

Many of the teams that started this stage as favorites are in this category.

For Wildcard and Passion UA, this kind of start is very promising because it gives them a real opportunity to advance to the next stage. If they win their matches in round 3, they will then have two best-of-three opportunities to qualify for the Elimination Stage.

The 0 W – 2 L Teams

The four teams that are one step away from elimination are Complexity, Rare Atom, Fnatic, and Imperial Esports. By far, the weakest of them seems to be Rare Atom, whose performance on day 1 was an absolute disaster: 6 round victories on two maps.
