G2 Esports have done it. When IEM Dallas began, few people expected them to reach the playoffs and almost nobody believed in their ability to win the trophy.
But after a thrilling performance in the Grand Final against Team Vitality, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov and his squad became the winners of one of the most exciting Counter-Strike events that took place on American soil in recent years.
G2’s Performance
The Grand Final of IEM Dallas started on G2’s map pick, Inferno. In the first half, m0NESY and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut battled for supremacy and tried their best to carry their teams. The score was 7 – 5 for G2.
But the second half was much harder for them and the battle was pushed into overtime. After losing three consecutive rounds, G2 managed to make a comeback. They eventually won after the second overtime with a score of 19 – 16.
On the next map, Anubis, the situation in the first 24 rounds was almost identical. The two teams had a very close confrontation and the scores were 5 – 7 / 12 – 12.
Nikola “NiKo” Kovac and m0NESY were much more effective than the rest of their teammates, getting lots of kills and ending with positive KD scores. But Vitality played just a tiny bit better. The score was 13 – 16.
The match was decided on Nuke. Initially, G2 gained a significant lead. But Vitality fought hard and won six consecutive games. By the end of the first half, the score was 6 – 6.
The second half was a complete disaster for the French side, partly because their superstar player, ZywOo, wasn’t able to play as well as he usually does.
His performance on this map was the worst on the server and one of the worst we’ve seen from him in 2023 and 2024: 9 – 16, 46.2 ADR, 0.60 rating 2.0.
Meanwhile, m0NESY had a formidable score: 25 – 11, 120.3 ADR, 1.86 rating 2.0. Thanks to this, G2 claimed their first trophy in 2024 after four failed attempts. For Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip, this was a remarkable result.
M0NESY Won The MVP Award
After such a performance, not just in this match but throughout the tournament, it’s not a surprise that m0NESY was given the IEM Dallas MVP award. It seems that finally, after two and a half years of competing for G2, he has reached his true potential.
If he continues like this, he will be one of the top contenders for the Player of the Year award.
