The Group Stage of BLAST Open Spring 2025 is almost over and we now know four of the teams that will compete in the playoffs. The other two will be decided on Monday.
The results should not surprise anyone, even though some of the former big names are no longer among the best of the best. Astralis, FaZe Clan, and Team Liquid used to dominate Counter-Strike. Now they can’t even survive the group stage of a tournament like BLAST Open Spring.
Group A Results
In group A, we knew from the start that Team Vitality, MOUZ, and Team Spirit were the favorites. But to our surprise, MOUZ defeated Spirit again and sent them to the lower bracket.
Vitality had a very easy path to the Upper Bracket Final and simply dismantled both Astralis and Virtus.pro. If everything goes well, they will be the winners of this group and the entire tournament.
In the lower bracket, VP and Spirit will play on Monday to determine the 3rd qualified team for the playoffs. Based on everything we’ve seen so far, Spirit should win with ease, just as they did in the quarterfinals of IEM Katowice.
Group B Results
In group B, the five favorites were G2 Esports, Natus Vincere, Eternal Fire, Team Liquid, and The MongolZ. Liquid are already out. Eternal Fire, quite surprisingly, managed to qualify for the Upper Bracket Final, along with Natus Vincere, who avenged their EPL S21 defeat against The MongolZ.
For G2 Esports, the situation is looking dire. They will need to defeat The MongolZ in the lower bracket and they lost against them twice in the last four months.
Perhaps Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov can do something special with the AWP and save the day. But the odds are certainly not in G2’s favor.
