What a spectacular performance from Team Falcons and what a wonderful CS2 event overall!
PGL Bucharest 2025 turned out to be much better than expected. Despite the absence of the best four teams in the world, we had the opportunity to watch some world-class Counter-Strike from many of the top 20 competitors.
In the end, Team Falcons won their first trophy in CS2 and probably gained a lot more confidence going forward.
Clearly, the new roster is much stronger than the previous one. For Danny “zonic” Sørensen, who has been coaching the team since November 2023, the victory obtained in Bucharest probably feels amazing.
The entire roster celebrated it, even though this wasn’t an event held in a huge arena, in front of thousands of fans. The whole thing was a lot more modest but still significant, given the $625.000 prize pool and the caliber of the 16 participants.
Team Falcons’ Path to Victory
Team Falcons came close to getting eliminated in the group stage. They lost the first two matches and had to win three times in a row to advance to the playoffs, against paiN Gaming, Rare Atom, and The MongolZ.
The last of these three teams was in the top 5 globally at the start of the tournament, which makes Falcons’ victory all the more remarkable.
In the playoffs, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač’s team encountered GamerLegion, FaZe Clan, and G2 Esports. Arguably, the last two of these opponents were among the strongest teams in the tournament. Furthermore, the matches were played on LAN, not online. So we can conclude that Falcons’ victory really indicates that they are now a top 10 team.
If they continue to improve, and they should, given zonic and NiKo’s deep understanding of the game, in a few months we may see them achieving top-6 and even top-4 results at S-tier tournaments that feature the likes of Team Vitality, NAVI, Team Spirit, and MOUZ.
Team Falcons defeated G2 Esports in the Grand Final without losing a single map. The scores were 13 – 5 on Mirage, 13 – 7 on Nuke, and 13 – 8 on Ancient. Their entire roster played really well.
