Shanghai Major Last 16 Day 1 Results

Share

The second stage of the Shanghai Major started today with some very surprising results.

MIBR and The MongolZ are now just one victory away from advancing to the playoffs. Their qualification is not yet guaranteed. We saw in stage one what happened to Complexity, and this stage is far more competitive because every single team is formidable.

The worst-performing organization on the first day of the Elimination Stage was BIG. But even their roster won 12 rounds. Overall, the games were balanced and many of them ended with very tight scores. In no less than nine of the 16 matches, the losing team won at least 10 rounds.

The 2 W – 0 L Teams

The best performing teams on day 1 were The MongolZ, MIBR, Team Vitality, and HEROIC. All of them won both of their matches. HEROIC had the most impressive scores: 13 – 7 against BIG and 13 – 8 against FaZe Clan.

Vitality will face MIBR in their third match, so they’re the most likely to finish the race early with a perfect score. HEROIC will need to beat The MongolZ and it’s not going to be easy. G2 Esports and MOUZ have already lost against them.

The 1 W – 1 L Teams

This category features these eight teams:

  • G2 Esports
  • FaZe Clan
  • MOUZ
  • 3DMAX
  • Team Spirit
  • Team Liquid
  • Natus Vincere
  • FURIA Esports

Against all odds, Na’Vi lost their second match versus MIBR after they got destroyed in the first half of Inferno (3 – 9). The final score was 11 – 13.

The 0 W – 2 L Teams

For GamerLegion, BIG, paiN Gaming, and Wildcard, the odds of advancing to the next stage of the Shanghai Major are now close to zero.

PaiN Gaming had to play against MOUZ and 3DMAX, so at least they had a decent chance of winning one match. But the other three teams ran into most of the tournament’s favorites: Vitality, Liquid, HEROIC, G2, FaZe, and Spirit.
