Until mid-July, CS2 will be devoid of big events. But the tournament that will put an end to this vacation is likely going to be epic.
Esports World Cup 2024 offers $1 million in prize money and features 15 of the world’s best teams. Team Spirit, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, Team Vitality, G2 Esports, and MOUZ are among them.
However, some of the most prestigious organizations in CS2 will not compete in the tournament. If you’re wondering what happened to them, here’s a brief reminder.
Astralis
They did not receive an invitation and did not participate in the qualifiers either. Because of that, Astralis will not be in Riyadh to compete in Esports World Cup’s CS2 event.
Eternal Fire, Cloud9, And BetBoom Team
All of these teams played in the European Qualifier but did not manage to win. Only one qualification spot was offered to the teams in this region and the winner was Sashi Esport.
Team Liquid
Liquid made an attempt to qualify for Esports World Cup and everyone was convinced that they would succeed. But after beating Legacy 2 – 0 and M80 2 – 1 in the North American Qualifier, Liquid had to play a second match against M80 and lost.
The first map was extremely close and finished 11 – 13 in favor of M80. The second map was a disaster for Liquid, who failed to qualify for one of the most important tournaments of the year. No doubt, this failure contributed to the organization’s later decision to bench their IGL, Casper “cadiaN” Møller.
PaiN Gaming
PaiN Gaming had some very promising results earlier this year. They finished 9th – 11th at the Copenhagen Major and then won Global Esports Tour Rio de Janeiro. But in the South American Qualifier for Esports World Cup 2024, they were defeated in the Grand Final by MIBR.
TYLOO And Rare Atom
Both of these teams competed in the Asian Qualifier but were not successful. The competition was won by The MongolZ.
Team Falcons and Ninjas in Pyjamas
Unfortunately for Danny “zonic” Sørensen and his players, Team Falcons lost the first match of the European Open Qualifier. NiP also failed to advance to the Closed Qualifier after losing in the Round of 16.
