A <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/steam-id-finder\">SteamID lookup<\/a> still identifies the same account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='how-to-change-your-steam-profile-name'  id=\"boomdevs_2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-change-your-steam-profile-name\">How to Change Your Steam Profile Name<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='changing-the-name-on-desktop'  id=\"boomdevs_3\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"changing-the-name-on-desktop\">Changing the Name on Desktop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From your signed-in Steam account, visit your own community profile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Edit Profile<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>General<\/strong>, find <strong>Profile Name<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type the new public name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down and click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>After saving, reopen the community profile. A new name there with an old name still inside the game points to the game&#8217;s view needing a refresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='on-mobile-ios-or-android'  id=\"boomdevs_4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"on-mobile-ios-or-android\">On Mobile: iOS or Android<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you use the app or mobile website, it&#8217;s the Steam Community profile you&#8217;re changing. Find Edit Profile on your own profile; an older screenshot&#8217;s menu position may not match your app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open your own profile while signed in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Edit Profile<\/strong>, then <strong>General<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change <strong>Profile Name<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to <strong>Save<\/strong> and tap it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll beyond the fields to reach Save. Typing a name and closing the page without that final save won&#8217;t apply it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='using-a-web-browser'  id=\"boomdevs_5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"using-a-web-browser\">Using a Web Browser<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steam Community in a browser is another way to reach the editor. Once you&#8217;re signed in to the right account, your profile&#8217;s Edit Profile page has the same Profile Name field under General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='tips-for-your-profile-name'  id=\"boomdevs_6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tips-for-your-profile-name\">Tips for Your Profile Name<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check decorative characters in the game as well as on the profile. Its font may render them differently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A public gaming name isn&#8217;t a place for your email or phone number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping a recognisable part of the old name can help friends follow the change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the name within Steam&#8217;s community rules, including the rules against impersonation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your games and items stay on the same account. So does your <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/how-to-check-someones-steam-trade-history\/\">trade history<\/a>; a new display name doesn&#8217;t wipe it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a practical catch for traders: a familiar name isn&#8217;t identity verification. Someone else&#8217;s matching name and avatar can still belong to a different SteamID. Check who sent the offer and what it contains before you accept it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='changing-your-account-name-or-steamid'  id=\"boomdevs_7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"changing-your-account-name-or-steamid\">Changing Your Account Name or SteamID<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can&#8217;t rename the login account or change its SteamID. Steam Support can&#8217;t do either, and it can&#8217;t merge accounts. An editable Custom URL doesn&#8217;t override that restriction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another account gets another identity. It doesn&#8217;t automatically inherit this account&#8217;s games, awards or items. Renaming the existing profile avoids starting over when a new public name is all you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use account recovery for a forgotten sign-in name. The public-name field isn&#8217;t a login reset. Leave <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/what-is-steam-guard\/\">Steam Guard<\/a> on while recovering access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='changing-a-custom-profile-url'  id=\"boomdevs_8\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"changing-a-custom-profile-url\">Changing a Custom Profile URL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Custom URL is another field under Edit Profile&#8217;s General section. Enter an available address and save. Your SteamID stays put.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also replace the address anywhere you&#8217;ve shared it outside Steam, such as a social profile. A saved name in one view points to a refresh issue in the other.
