You\u2019ll need two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>player-controlled drone<\/strong> (not the auto delivery ones).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>Computer Station<\/strong> to control it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are mid-to-late game items. You&#8217;re looking at Tier 2 workbench requirements, plus a fair amount of components and scrap. I usually get mine by <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/how-to-do-small-oil-rig-rust\/\">looting Rust Oil Rig<\/a> or Labs, but if I\u2019m settled, I craft them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the short version of the shopping list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For the Drone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>200 Metal Frags<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/rust-camera-codes\">CCTV Camera<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 Tech Trash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tier 2 Workbench<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For the Computer Station<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>5 HQM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Targeting Computer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 RF Receiver + 1 RF Broadcaster<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tier 2 Workbench<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also research both items or buy them from vending machines (sometimes for steep prices).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='step-2-setting-it-up'  id=\"boomdevs_2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-setting-it-up\">Step 2: Setting It Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I\u2019ve crafted or found my drone and Computer Station, here\u2019s what I do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Place the drone<\/strong> somewhere flat\u2014open roofs are perfect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interact with it (&#8216;E&#8217;)<\/strong> and assign it a custom ID. Keep it simple, like <code>drone01<\/code>. <em>IDs are case-sensitive, so no typos.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jump on the Computer Station<\/strong>, type the ID, and boom\u2014you\u2019re flying.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='step-3-flying-like-a-pro'  id=\"boomdevs_3\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-flying-like-a-pro\">Step 3: Flying Like a Pro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"iframe-wrapper iframe-video\"><iframe title=\"How to Use Drones in Rust\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QlwnweMOLww?feature=oembed\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the default <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/best-keybinds-for-rust\/\">Rust keybinds<\/a> I use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><div class=\"table-wrapper\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Action<\/th><th>Key<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Ascend<\/td><td>Left Shift<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Descend<\/td><td>Left Ctrl<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Forward<\/td><td>W<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Backward<\/td><td>S<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Strafe Left<\/td><td>A<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Strafe Right<\/td><td>D<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Look \/ Steer<\/td><td>Mouse<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You <em>don\u2019t<\/em> need fuel, batteries, or wires for the drone. The Computer Station does need electricity if you&#8217;re also controlling other electronics, but for drone flight alone, you\u2019re good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='step-4-know-the-range-and-limits'  id=\"boomdevs_4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-4-know-the-range-and-limits\">Step 4: Know the Range and Limits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Drones have a <strong>600m control range<\/strong>, and signal fully cuts out around 750m. That means if I\u2019m scouting deep enemy territory, I either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Set up a forward base<\/strong> with a Computer Station closer to the target.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Launch from a Tugboat<\/strong> and move while flying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you push past the range, the drone feed starts glitching, and eventually you lose it entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='step-5-why-i-use-drones-in-the-first-place'  id=\"boomdevs_5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-5-why-i-use-drones-in-the-first-place\">Step 5: Why I Use Drones in the First Place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/playrust\/comments\/1f0r0pp\/anyone_use_drone\/\">Anyone use drone?<\/a><br> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/Mr_Evil_05\/\">u\/Mr_Evil_05<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/playrust\/\">playrust<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Honestly? <em>Intel wins fights.<\/em> Here&#8217;s how I use mine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scout raid targets<\/strong> \u2013 roof turrets, weak walls, turret coverage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Watch enemy movement<\/strong> \u2013 who&#8217;s farming, who&#8217;s online, who\u2019s grouping up.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check monument activity<\/strong> \u2013 before I even step inside Dome or Train Yard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Spy from safety<\/strong> \u2013 while my body is tucked in a honeycomb base.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Drones are basically free eyes. I don\u2019t risk my kit. I don\u2019t even risk a naked run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='step-6-keeping-your-drone-alive'  id=\"boomdevs_6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-6-keeping-your-drone-alive\">Step 6: Keeping Your Drone Alive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, drones got buffed\u2014they\u2019ve got <strong>200 HP<\/strong> now. But they still die if you\u2019re careless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biggest threats:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bullets<\/strong> \u2013 anyone with decent aim will shoot it down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Crashing into things<\/strong> \u2013 they break on hard impact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Water<\/strong> \u2013 instant destruction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If mine gets hit but survives, I bring it back and hit it with a <strong>Hammer<\/strong> or repair it at a <strong>Repair Bench<\/strong>. You can\u2019t control them. You just use the terminal at Outpost or Bandit Camp, pay 20 scrap, and your stuff gets flown in automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re amazing for loot transfer, though. I sometimes set up my own <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/rust\/store\/recycler-vending-machine\">vending machine near base<\/a>, \u201cbuy\u201d something from it at Bandit, and get the drone to deliver my real loot home safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='drones-in-rust-are-worth-it-if-you-know-how-to-use-them'  id=\"boomdevs_8\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-drones-in-rust-are-worth-it-if-you-know-how-to-use-them\">Drones in Rust Are Worth It (If You Know How to Use Them)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Flying drones in Rust isn\u2019t just for roleplayers or base builders\u2014it\u2019s a legit PvP and survival tool. It takes a bit of setup, sure. But once you\u2019ve got a drone in the air, you\u2019re operating with information your enemies don\u2019t have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in Rust? <em>Information gets you kills, loot, and survival.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So get your drone. Set your ID.
