The full release arrived as a free upgrade to CS:GO on the existing Steam listing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Those two dates answer different questions. You could receive a test invitation in March; you didn&#8217;t need one to install the released game in September. They aren&#8217;t alternative dates for the game&#8217;s public launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='the-arrival-of-counter-strike-2'  id=\"boomdevs_2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-arrival-of-counter-strike-2\">The Arrival of Counter-Strike 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 27, existing CS:GO players received the upgrade through Steam. New players installed Counter-Strike 2 from its store page. Valve launched Premier Season One and enabled Competitive, Wingman and Private Matchmaking, alongside Training Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The release wasn&#8217;t a one-day return of every CS:GO feature. Workshop map uploading came in November; Arms Race followed the next February. Launch coverage therefore won&#8217;t include every mode you can play now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='the-anticipation-builds'  id=\"boomdevs_3\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-anticipation-builds\">The Anticipation Builds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first Limited Test invited selected CS:GO players to try a subset of CS2 and provide feedback. An invitation gave access to that test, not an early copy of every feature the released game would eventually receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valve expanded invitations on August 31. The criteria were <strong>Prime status, an active official Competitive Skill Group, and playing most official matchmaking games in a region where the test was available<\/strong>. Buying CS:GO before it became free wasn&#8217;t the stated rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='the-big-reveal'  id=\"boomdevs_4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-big-reveal\">The Big Reveal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 22 March reveal centred on Source 2, responsive volumetric smoke, revised maps and subtick gameplay. The Limited Test started with that announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So March 22 is the answer to \u201cWhen was CS2 announced?\u201d September 27 answers \u201cWhen did CS2 release?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='the-day-cs2-released-publicly'  id=\"boomdevs_5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-day-cs2-released-publicly\">The Day CS2 Released Publicly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The wider audience got the released game on 27 September 2023. A download timestamp can look different in another time zone, but it doesn&#8217;t replace the date of Valve&#8217;s launch announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The desktop versions are for Windows and Linux, not native macOS or consoles. They&#8217;re different <a href=\"https:\/\/tradeit.gg\/blog\/cs2-ranks\/\">ranking systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your inventory carried over, but lighting and materials changed how some items look.
