Expect to sign back in afterwards; the installed game stays in place. Avoid a separate driver-updater app. A normal installation is the first comparison; try a clean driver install only if the same fault remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li><strong>NVIDIA:<\/strong> use the NVIDIA App or NVIDIA\u2019s official driver download. If a regular update did not help, use the installer\u2019s Custom option and a clean installation when that option is available.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>AMD:<\/strong> use AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. For a damaged driver stack, AMD\u2019s installer provides a Factory Reset option on supported setups, and AMD also provides its own Cleanup Utility.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Intel:<\/strong> use Intel Graphics Software, Intel\u2019s official graphics driver package, or the OEM driver recommended for your laptop. A clean installation is useful only when a normal install leaves the same launch problem.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep the next attempt comparable: restart after the driver install, leave launch options empty and keep overlays as they were. If you change those too, a working launch will not tell you whether the new driver was responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group ti-callout ti-callout-info\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>On a laptop, a problem that began with a generic graphics update is a reason to check the maker&#8217;s driver page. Some hybrid-graphics setups rely on its particular Intel, AMD or NVIDIA packages.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='disable-conflicting-apps-and-overlays'  id=\"boomdevs_4\" id=\"boomdevs_4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disable Conflicting Apps and Overlays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Look at the apps adding overlays or recording the game. Common examples are Discord, NVIDIA&#8217;s overlay, Overwolf and RivaTuner alongside MSI Afterburner. Some Synapse modules or security tools can be relevant too. Try the apps you actually use; merely finding one installed does not prove it caused the failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list ti-steps\">\n\n<li>Exit unneeded apps from the notification area as well as their main windows. Task Manager shows what remains open.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Use each app&#8217;s own overlay switch for this comparison. There is no need to uninstall the app just to try a launch without its overlay.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Launch CS2 once.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>A successful launch gives you a lead. Restore one app or overlay, try again, and continue until you find the one that brings the failure back.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Look in Windows Security&#8217;s Protection history before changing an exception. A recorded Controlled Folder Access block can be addressed under Virus &amp; threat protection &gt; Manage ransomware protection. Allow the legitimate Steam or CS2 executable named in that block, not unrelated apps. Keep global protection enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steam&#8217;s Browse installed files control takes you to the right library. From there, the usual Windows executable is <code>steamapps\\common\\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\\game\\bin\\win64\\cs2.exe<\/code>. The old Counter-Strike Global Offensive folder name is normal; the drive and library prefix can differ on your PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='fix-the-your-game-launch-configuration-does-not-match-error'  id=\"boomdevs_5\" id=\"boomdevs_5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fix the \u201cYour Game Launch Configuration Does Not Match\u201d Error<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The error <strong>\u201cyour game launch configuration does not match your account configuration\u201d<\/strong> is more specific than a silent failure. Something about the launch or account configuration does not match what the game expects. File verification has helped reported community cases. A backed-up reset of stale local settings is another test, not a guaranteed explanation for every occurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list ti-steps\">\n\n<li>Clear every Steam launch option for CS2.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Verify the game files again.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Close Steam completely.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Open the Steam <code>userdata<\/code> folder and find your account\u2019s <code>730\\local\\cfg<\/code> folder.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep a recoverable copy.<\/strong> Rename <code>cfg<\/code> to <code>cfg_backup<\/code>, for example. The old binds and settings remain in that folder while the game is given a chance to create fresh ones.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Reopen Steam and try CS2. With the old account-local folder renamed, the game can create a new configuration instead of loading it.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If fresh settings let the game open, do not immediately copy the whole old folder back. That could put the same problem back too. Restore only the settings you need and check the launch between changes. Leave <code>autoexec.cfg<\/code> out for the first test if you normally use one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group ti-callout ti-callout-error\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p><strong>A random DLL or CFG pack is not a repair.<\/strong> Let Steam replace its own game files, and keep a backup when resetting local settings. A file from an unknown download page may be for an old build, may not match CS2 at all, or may be unsafe.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='launch-options-and-the-vulkan-flag'  id=\"boomdevs_6\" id=\"boomdevs_6\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Launch Options and the -vulkan Flag<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A copied options string may have been sitting in Steam for years. That makes it easy to overlook when a newly updated game stops opening. Empty it for the baseline before testing any single flag. Old CS:GO options are not automatically suitable for CS2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='clear-existing-launch-options-first'  id=\"boomdevs_7\" id=\"boomdevs_7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clear Existing Launch Options First<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Steam&#8217;s CS2 Properties, open General and copy the Launch Options text somewhere safe. Clear that field for the next attempt. If the game opens, put back needed options separately instead of restoring the whole string.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a window opens, supported commands can be entered through the <a href=\"\/blog\/how-to-open-the-cs2-console\/\">CS2 console<\/a>. Until then, an in-game command is not an accessible repair path. The Steam and file checks have to come first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='try-vulkan-as-a-diagnostic-fallback'  id=\"boomdevs_8\" id=\"boomdevs_8\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Try -vulkan as a Diagnostic Fallback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows normally runs CS2 through DirectX 11. To compare an alternative graphics path, try <code>-vulkan<\/code> alone. Both the GPU and driver must support Vulkan; entering the flag cannot add that capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list ti-steps\">\n\n<li>Keep every other launch option removed.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Enter <code>-vulkan<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Launch once and judge only whether CS2 starts reliably.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>If it does not help, remove <code>-vulkan<\/code> and return to the default renderer.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>A different launch result points towards a renderer or driver interaction. It does not prove one renderer is faster in general. If neither attempt opens CS2, clear the flag and continue with the next check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='use-autoconfig-and-windowed-as-fallback-tests'  id=\"boomdevs_9\" id=\"boomdevs_9\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use -autoconfig and -windowed as Fallback Tests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A suspected bad video configuration gives you a reason to try <code>-autoconfig<\/code> alone. It selects video and performance settings for detected hardware and ignores saved configuration while active. For a suspected display-mode problem, try <code>-windowed<\/code> on a separate attempt. Once you have learned what changes the launch, remove flags that were only there for diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='repair-microsoft-visual-c++-redistributable'  id=\"boomdevs_10\" id=\"boomdevs_10\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For a Visual C++ error, we&#8217;d start with the runtime, not another game download. Windows installs that package separately. CS2&#8217;s files can be fine while the runtime still needs attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list ti-steps\">\n\n<li>The app list lives in Windows Settings, under Apps. Its name is Installed apps on Windows 11 and Apps &amp; features on Windows 10.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Find Microsoft&#8217;s Visual C++ v14 runtime in that list. An older 2015-2022 label is still the runtime family we need here.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>An available Modify option takes you into the installer. From there, run Repair and restart after it completes.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>If it&#8217;s missing, or still broken after that, download the latest supported v14 installer from Microsoft. Run the whole package. Picking out a DLL from another website is not the same repair.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Test CS2 before changing anything else.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not drop replacement DLLs into the game folder. A <code>vcruntime<\/code> or <code>msvcp<\/code> error belongs with the Microsoft runtime repair: its installer provides related components together. An unknown DLL can give you a different mismatch to solve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='advanced-fixes-safe-mode-sfc-dism-and-clean-boot'  id=\"boomdevs_11\" id=\"boomdevs_11\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advanced Fixes: Safe Mode, SFC, DISM, and Clean Boot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Only move into these Windows checks after the simpler game and driver tests. They are useful when the failure points beyond CS2, or when you need to isolate a service conflict. None belongs in an everyday graphics-optimization routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='boot-windows-in-safe-mode-and-retry'  id=\"boomdevs_12\" id=\"boomdevs_12\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boot Windows in Safe Mode and Retry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A failed test in Safe Mode doesn&#8217;t tell us much on its own. Windows isn&#8217;t loading the usual drivers and services, and CS2 can need what has been left out. Networking can get Steam connected without bringing back the graphics support you&#8217;d have in a normal boot. That&#8217;s why a previously working game can fail this particular test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have your work saved and, for an encrypted PC, your BitLocker recovery key ready before you begin. The shortcut into recovery is Shift plus Restart from the Windows Power menu, on both Windows 10 and 11. Work through the recovery menus in this order: Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Startup Settings, Restart. You&#8217;ll then be able to choose Safe Mode with Networking. Make the launch comparison there, then restart normally to leave it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group ti-callout ti-callout-info\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>Do not read too much into a failed launch here. Safe Mode has changed the available drivers and services as well as the startup apps. A successful launch is a useful lead; an unsuccessful one does not establish damaged game files.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='run-dism-and-sfc-scannow-to-repair-windows'  id=\"boomdevs_13\" id=\"boomdevs_13\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Run DISM and sfc \/scannow to Repair Windows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;d look at Windows repairs when other apps are misbehaving too. Use an administrator Terminal or Command Prompt for the two commands below. In Microsoft&#8217;s sequence, the Windows image gets repaired by DISM before SFC checks the system files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"ti-code\"><code>DISM.exe \/Online \/Cleanup-Image \/RestoreHealth\nsfc \/scannow<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the DISM line and let it finish. Then run the SFC line and wait for that scan too. Leave the window open for the whole scan. A restart and another launch with an empty options field come next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id='use-a-clean-boot-to-isolate-a-service-conflict'  id=\"boomdevs_14\" id=\"boomdevs_14\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use a Clean Boot to Isolate a Service Conflict<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use a clean boot to check a suspected background conflict without uninstalling programs. It leaves out your third-party startup apps and services for the test. If that gets CS2 open, turn them back on in groups and try again between groups. A returning fault tells you which group needs a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list ti-steps\">\n\n<li>Open System Configuration by searching Windows for <code>msconfig<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Check <strong>Hide all Microsoft services<\/strong> on the Services tab. Only after they are hidden, choose Disable all for the remaining services.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Open Task Manager from the Startup tab. Write down the enabled startup items, then disable those items temporarily. Keep the list: restoring your previous startup choices is part of finishing the test.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Restart into that reduced startup configuration and make one CS2 launch attempt.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>If the game starts, turn on services and startup apps in groups until the problem comes back.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Restore normal startup when testing is complete.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Hide Microsoft services before using &#8220;Disable all&#8221;. That distinction matters: the test is meant to remove third-party services from the boot, not switch off Windows&#8217; own services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='last-resort-reinstall-cs2-or-steam'  id=\"boomdevs_15\" id=\"boomdevs_15\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Last Resort: Reinstall CS2 or Steam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Check what a reinstall would actually replace. It gives you new game files, but the driver, security exception and separate account config may stay exactly as they were. If one of those is at fault, downloading CS2 again leaves the cause in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copy your configs, screenshots and demos somewhere outside the game directory before reinstalling through Steam. When the new download finishes, launch it once with its fresh settings. Copying the old config back first would also bring back any fault in that config.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If several games fail, widen the investigation to <a href=\"\/blog\/how-to-fix-steam-games-not-launching\/\">Steam games not launching<\/a>. Reinstalling just CS2 will not tell you much about a client-wide problem.
