How Do CS:GO Trade Up Work

The CS:GO Trade Up Contract is a feature available in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Its purpose is to allow you to get rid of your lower quality skins in exchange for higher quality skins. In this guide, you will learn more about it.

How Does the Trade Up Contract Feature Work in CS:GO

CS:GO Trade Up

The Trade Up Contract was previously known under a different name: Arms Deal Contract. But the new system serves the same purpose.

The idea is simple: you have a lot of skins that aren’t worth much, and you would like to upgrade them somehow. You can do it, but only if you agree to lose some of the value in the process.

To get one higher tier CS:GO skin, you will need to offer 10 lower-tier skins. The 10 skins you agree to sacrifice need identical weapon grade tiers, and the skin you’ll receive for them will be one tier higher.

If you do the math, you will quickly realize that you need to give away 10 tier 1 item to get 1 tier 2 item, 10 tier 2 items to get 1 tier 3 item, and so on. In other words, you need 100 tier 1 items to get 1 tier 3 item, 1000 tier 1 items to get 1 tier 4 item, etc. You probably lose a lot of your inventory’s value in the process, but this may still make sense.

It all depends on what your goal is. You can’t do anything useful with all those worthless CS:GO skins that you’ve accumulated over the years, so you might as well trade them for something better.

What Steps You Need to Take

CS:GO Trade Up

The first step you need to take when using the Trade Up Contract feature is finding the Trade Up Contract item in your inventory. The second step is to select 10 skins that have the same weapon grade.

Upon completing this task, a contract screen opens up. Here you’ll be able to see the contract and sign it in any way you want with your mouse.

The next step is to confirm the trade by clicking on the Submit Contract button. The system will automatically do the rest for you. It will approve the trade and reward you with a slightly better CS:GO skin for the 10 skins you’ve agreed to offer.

When using the CS:GO Trade Up system, you need to be aware that some types of weapons are excluded from being used. These include:

  • Souvenir skins
  • Knives
  • Covert skins
  • Contraband skins
  • Skins that have the maximum weapon grade in their collection

CS:GO Weapon Grades

The grade of a CS:GO weapon can be one of the following 5:

  • Industrial Grade
  • Mil-Spec
  • Restricted
  • Classified
  • Covert

Other Information Abou CS:GO Trade Up

CS:GO Trade Up

In the game files, the process of exchanging 10 skins for one with a higher weapon grade is called crafting. The name is taken from RPGs, and it’s quite suggestive.

The former system, called the Arms Deal Contract, was introduced in 2013. The name was changed to Trade Up Contract with the release of Operation Bravo. This update was the 2nd CS:GO Operation. The first one was called Payback.

You can use weapons from any collection when utilizing the CS:GO Trade Up Contract. Your reward is selected randomly from one of the input collections, which means that if you use skins from 3 different collections as your input (the 10 skins you offer), the skin you will get will be picked by the system from one of those collections.

Another thing to remember is that the probability of one collection being used is proportional to the number of input skins from that collection.

So if you use 9 skins from one collection and 1 skin from another collection, you are much more likely to receive a skin from the collection of the 9 rather than from the other collection.

Are CS:GO Skin Trade Up Worth It?

CS:GO Trade Up

CS:GO skin Trade Ups are very volatile because they can yield a wide range of results. Since you cannot pick your reward, the system may give you something cool and expensive in return; or it may give you something that isn’t great at all.

Keep in mind that the value of CS:GO skins is determined by the market. Just because the skin is rare doesn’t mean it can be sold for $1000. The community holds some skins in high esteem while others are mostly neglected, despite their appealing visual elements.

When using the Trade Up Contract, try to have low expectations to celebrate when you finally get that epic result you’ve been secretly dreaming about.
